South African aid group works to free hostages 


July 24, Stockholm: South African humanitarian organization has said are negotiating with the captors to free a South African and a Swedish hostage alive.

Gift of the Givers, the humanitarian organization said that efforts are underway to free South African Stephen Malcolm McGowan and Swedish citizen Johan Gustafsson held in Mali three years ago.

The founder of the organisation Imtiaz Sooliman said they have identified a negotiator well-known by local Malian tribes who will try to build a relationship with the kidnappers.

The men are believed to be held by al-Qaida, the north African wing of the international group.
