Obama should raise human rights issues during Kenya visit: Freedom House
July 15, Washington: As United states President Barack Obama prepares to travel to Kenya, Freedom House and 17 other international and Kenyan human rights organizations co-signed a letter to Obama highlighting concerns that Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta is undermining his country’s constitution and its commitments to international human rights law under the pretext of promoting national security and combating terrorism.
The letter saia, “As one of Kenya’s closest allies and a key partner in the fight against terrorism, the US has a unique role in urging President Kenyatta and his government to change its current trajectory and work to implement the 2010 Constitution.” It furthere said that, “We urge you to raise these critical issues during your upcoming historic visit to Kenya.”
