Myanmar government release nearly 7,000 prisoners
July 30, Naypyidaw: Almost 7000 prisoners will be set free on presidential pardons in Myanmar. The announcement made on Thursday in a statement of Information ministry, is the latest in a series of amnesties by Thein Sein’s reformist government.
Among the prisoners 6,966 prisoners 210 are foreigners. The statement reads that the prisoners are freed from various prisons on the humanitarian grounds and national reconciliation. The release of prisoners include top military officials who had been jailed since 2004.
