Marrakech, Sept 26: Under the patronage of His Majesty the King Mohammed VI, the Kingdom of Morocco will be hosting the 5th annual Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES), in Marrakech from November 19-21.
The Summit, which is being organized under the theme “Harnessing the Power of Technology for Innovation and Entrepreneurship”, is the leading U.S. Government-supported forum for promoting economic growth through entrepreneurship. Organized for the first time in an Arab-African country, this year’s Summit is expected to bring together over 3000 entrepreneurs, along with heads of State, high level government officials, global entrepreneurs, small-medium enterprises (SME’s), corporate leaders, and young entrepreneurs to debate on five main sub-themes: Regional Integration, Sustainable Economic Growth, Social Innovation for Youth, Human Development, and Migration.
According to a press statement issued by the summit organizers, there will also be an “African Innovation Village” at the summit, where young Africans will be able to promote their projects and share innovations on a wide range of topics including ICT, entrepreneurship, water management, and alternative energy. The press statement also stated that this year’s Summit provides an opportunity to reaffirm Morocco’s enduring commitment to supporting entrepreneurship by helping to channel the creativity and potential of individuals especially women and youth through economic empowerment. “In addition, this year’s Summit will enable Morocco to highlight its vision of a regional economic integration in Africa capable of enhancing a sustainable growth and developing human capital.” The GES was launched by the United states President Barak Obama in 2009 as a global platform in order to “empower entrepreneurs with the skills and resources necessary to compete and thrive in the 21rst century”.
