Madagascar:Parliament dismisses ‘incompetent’ president
May 27,Antananarivo: The Parliament in Madagascar has voted to dismiss President Hery Rajaonarimampianina for general incompetence on Tuesday night.
According to reports, the Island’s constitutional court will now look into the matter to decide on whether or discharge the President or not on charges of constitutional violations. The motion to discharge the President Rajaonarimampianina, was backed by 121 of the 125 lawmakers who voted against him, easily clearing the two-thirds majority required to pass a motion.
“It is officially declared that everyone accepts that the request of dismissal can be submitted to the constitutional court”, parliamentary speaker, Jean Max Rakotomamonjy, had said once the votes had been counted.
When Rajaonarimampianina took power in January 2014, there had been hope that Madagascar would finally emerge from its never ending cycle of political and economic crisis, however one year down the line and he may have to step down from power, as according to his opponents he has failed to deliver on his economic promises.
