Israel steers Freedom Fortilla ship off Gaza blockade 


June 29, Tel Aviv: The Israeli authorities have boarded and taken over a vessel attempting to break the blockade that leads into Palestinian territory early Monday morning.

While acknowledging the incident. the Israeli army through a statement on Monday, informed that they had not used force while redirecting the main boat to the Israeli city of Ashdod. According to reports the boat had been seized by the army around 2 a.m. Monday morning. The Israeli Army spokesman Peter Lerner said the seizure of the ship was “uneventful” and it is now being escorted to Ashdod in southern Israel.

The vessel is part of the Freedom Flotilla III – a band of four ships carrying pro-Palestinian activists including Arab Israeli lawmaker Basel Ghattas, Tunisia’s former president Moncef Marzouki and a European lawmaker.

While talking on the issue, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu commended the Israel Navy for detaining the passengers on the ship and for safely escorting it to the Southern port of Israel.
