Nov 4: A Christian couple have been brutally murdered by a mob in Pakistan after being accused of violating the sacredness of the Koran on Tuesday afternoon.

The local police informed that, their bodies were burned at a brick kiln in the town of Kot Radha Kishan in Punjab, where they worked.

Blasphemy in Pakistan is a very sensitive issue and over the years the law has been manipulated to settle personal scores. According to  the police, they had tried to save the couple but the mob outnumbered them. The police officials also stated that an incident of desecration of the holy Koran had taken place in the area the following day and the next day a mob first beat the couple and later set their bodies on fire at a brick kiln.

Since the 1990s, Hundreds of  Christians were found guilty of desecrating the Koran, so, many of them have been executed. However, these laws are so bias that a mere accusations of blasphemy can spark violence against the minorities.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister for the province of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif has formed a three-member committee to probe into the matter and bring the culprits to justice. He has also asked the police to increase security in Christian neighborhoods across the province.
