Ahwazi Poet arrested and humiliated for a 25-word Arabic poem: Iran
April 12, Tehran: A 31 year old Ahwazi poet was arrested in connection with a 25 word Arabic poem form his perfume shop in Kut Abdullah town near Ahwaz city on 8 April 2015.
According to reports Ahmad Sabhan Al Hazbawi, from Qalat Chanaan village, was arrested after the video of poem has gone viral on social media showing the poet and jubilant crowd, mainly youth, appeared in a video on 27 March 2015 expressing support for Saudi-led Operation Decisive Storm in Yemen. Iran or Iranians were not mentioned in the video what so ever.
Iran has a history of assassinated and executed Ahwazi poets merely for their poetry and cultural activities In February 2014 Iran executed the Ahwazi poet Hasem Shaabani and his fellow Al-Hiwar member and teacher Hadi Rashedi, and In November that year Iran detained an Arab poet Sattar Sayahi to prevent him from involvement in a variety of Arab cultural activities.
In recent weeks and days, especially after the self-immolation and death of Younes Asakara, the Iranian security forces have intensified their crackdown on Ahwazi Arab activists.
