Afghanistan peace talks in on hold after the death of Mullah Omar 


July 31, Kabul: Afghan peace process is put to hold after planned talks have been postponed after the death of Taliban fouder Mullah Omar. In a statement on Friday, Taliban officials have said that they have elected a new leader Mullah Akhtar a day after the death of their founder Mullah Omar.

The second round meeting was scheduled on Friday, would be delayed in the request of Taliban leadership. They had earlier held talks in Pakistan earlier this month.

In a statement by Pakistan‘s foreign ministry, hopes that the Taliban leadership will be engaged in the process for lasting peace in Afghanistan.
