13 police officers and three civilians killed in a crash in Egypt

May 30, Cairo: Egyptian authorities have confirmed that 13 police officers and three civilians were killed in a collision between a police vehicle and a truck in Cairo on Friday night.

According reports the accident had taken place along a stretch of road in Beni Suef province about 100 kilometres (62 miles) south of Egyptian capital, when a police vehicle, carrying conscripts, crashed into the truck, sending the two vehicles into a roadside canal.

Accidents are common in Egypt, as according to The World Health Organization says they account for nearly 12,000 deaths annually.
